SCIENCE LAB RENOVATION COMPLETE!!!
The lab construction work started last August 2009 with the deconstruction and removal of the old lab stations and cabinetry. The work continued with asbestos abatement, new flooring, and additional renovations. By October, the new lab stations were being installed and the lab began to take on its new look. The final touch was the addition of new energy efficient windows.

NCHS students and the NCHS science program have already been positively impacted by the renovations. Currently, 100% of Newman Catholic High School students take three years of science. Course enrollments for the graduating class of 2010 estimate that 85% of the juniors plan on taking four years of science and 40% actually “doubling up” on science their senior year. Newman Catholic High School current staffs three science teachers who hold master degrees and specialize in either life sciences, physics, or chemistry.

A community Open House /Science Fair was held in January during which time Fr Dan Hackel, Chaplain of NCHS offered a blessing on our new lab.  Bishop Listecki had the opportunity to see the finished lab when he visited during Catholic Schools Week. 
 

The Science Lab upgrade focused on three primary areas:

A. Safety Improvements

• Improved ventilation and air exchange
• Improved fire prevention including additional flammable storage units
• Increase eye wash and safety shower stations
• Additional first aid equipment, sharps and chemical disposal

B. Reconfigure and increase classroom and lab space

C. Equipment Additions

• Wireless internet hub
• Portable work stations
• Spectra photometer
• Balance and weight instrumentation
• Pass through fume hoods
